BIO
Research Unit One (RUO) is an independent research center founded in 2006 and among the first Italian research units dedicated to comparative legal studies, with a particular focus on substantive and procedural criminal law.
Over the years, RUO has evolved into an interdisciplinary research hub working at the intersection of comparative criminal procedure, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital evidence, organized crime, confiscated assets and public governance.
Its mission is to promote scientific research, policy analysis, executive education and international cooperation on the legal and institutional challenges arising from technological transformation and global regulatory developments.
Through partnerships with universities, public institutions, international organizations and private stakeholders, RUO has established itself as a recognized research actor in Italy and increasingly within the wider European and Euro-Mediterranean context.
Today, RUO's research activities focus on five core domains: Artificial Intelligence and Criminal Justice; Cybersecurity Governance; Digital Evidence and Forensic Accountability; Comparative Criminal Procedure; and Confiscated Assets, Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime.
